Friday, January 29th Event
7:00-9:00pm—18th Annual David M. Petrin Memorial Alumni Hockey Game. Greenfield High vs. Alumni at the Greenfield Skating Rink (Collins/Moylan Memorial Skating Arena). Tickets $6 for Adults and $4 for Students and Seniors. Tickets are available at the door. Proceeds benefit the David M. Petrin Memorial Scholarship fund presented annually to GHS graduating seniors.

Friday, February 5th Events
Amateur Photography Contest and Exhibit in Studio C, 3rd floor at Wilson’s Department Store on display during store hours through Saturday, February 13. Black and white and color entries depicting Franklin County Winter Subjects/Scenes accepted at The Recorder Office Classified Ad desk (14 Hope St., Greenfield) until Wednesday, January 27.
The Body Shoppe at 306 High Street is also offering~free classes for the entire Winter Carnival~Weekend, including Zumba.~ Go to www.tbs-opt.com for class offerings, or call 774-2138 for a schedule.

Greenfield Senior Center, located on the ground floor of the Weldon building at 54 High Street, (entrance & parking are on Union St.) is hosting Winter Carnival Wear Red Day! February 5 is National Wear Red Day. Celebrate and learn more about heart health. All events are free, and open to ages 16 and up.~ If you’re new to the Senior Center, please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class to complete a release form. Pre-registration is suggested but not required call 772-1517.~
9:30am-- Fit & Fabulous will hold a special class to honor our participants who are in their 90’s (yes, 90’s and doing aerobics!).
1:00pm -- Tap Dance Class, with Kathy Dunn – all levels.
1:30pm -- Jazz Dance Class, with Kathy Dunn – all levels.
2:00pm -- Group Fitness Sampler with Kathy Dunn & Hope Macary team teaching – the sampler will include low impact aerobics, resistance training, and stretching.~ Some fitness experience is helpful, but not required.

3:00pm-6:00pm -- Cardboard Sled Design Studio – Create, design, paint and prepare your cardboard sled for Sunday’s competition. General supplies available for use. Bring your own as well. Dance Hall, Youth Center

5:00pm-7:00pm -- Art Exhibit -- Artwork by Greenfield Middle School students will be on display on the Second Floor of the Youth Center. Be sure to stop by and see our Young Picassos!

6:00pm-7:00pm -- Board Game Night – Bring your family, friends and neighbors to the Youth Center, at 20 Sanderson Street. Games provided with the option to bring your own. Twister, Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Uno, Cooties, Don’t Break The Ice, Connect Four, and others. Free. Donations appreciated.

5:15pm-8:00pm – Cribbage Tournament – Fun For All Ages! Register begins at 5:15pm on the Second Floor of the Youth Center. Play starts at 5:30pm and there is a $5 pre-registration entry fee or $10 day of fee. Boards available or bring your own board and cards. Winner and consolation round prizes. Open to anyone and any age!

7:00-9:30pm-- Teen Dance – Youth Center for 12 to 15 year olds. DJ music, game room and snack bar. $5.00 admission.



Saturday, February 6th Events
10:00am-12:30pm -- Art Exhibit -- Artwork by Greenfield Middle School students will be on display on the Second Floor of the Youth Center. Be sure to stop by and see our Young Picassos!

10:00am – 2010 Sleigh Bell Run – 4 Mile Road Race Sponsored by Silver Screen Design. A scenic course starting on Hope Street and running through Highland Park area. Pre-register at Recreation Department or Town Hall or day of race at the Greenfield Public Library, LeVanway Meeting Room from 8:45-9:30am. Enter at the back of the Library. Age divisions and prizes. First 75 entrants receive t-shirt and sleigh bell bracelets. $15 pre race entry, $20 race day. Youth under the age of 18 are half price.

10:00am - Snowshoeing Trek led by Bicycle World Staff. Meet at the Highland Pond parking lot at 10:00am for a 60-90 minute free guided walk around Rocky Mountain trails. Bring your own snowshoes!

10:00am – Jedlie’s Totally Interactive Magic Circus - at the Youth Center, 20 Sanderson Street. Jedlie provides a fast paced show jam packed with fun, excitement and interaction from the crowd.  Suggested Donation.

10:00am - 2:00pm - Greenfield’s Winter Fare Farmers’ Market - at Greenfield High School, 1 Lenox Avenue. The Market will include vendors selling locally grown and raised food, along with workshops, displays, and a barter fair. From Feb. 6 to Feb. 14, the Week of Winter Fare will feature local food potlucks, films, recipe swaps, and workshops. For more information: www.winterfare.org.

11:00am -12:00pm -- Crafts for Kids offered by the Greenfield Youth Commission at the Youth Center, 20 Sanderson Street (across from Middle School Gym).

9:00am- 3:00pm – Youth Basketball League Games -- Greenfield Middle School.  The Greenfield Recreation Basketball teams are playing against local rivals all afternoon. Games start at 9:00am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45pm, and 2:00pm. Ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is free.

12:50pm-2:40pm – Public Ice Skating -- Collins/Moylan Arena, by the High School. Admission is $5 and Skate Rentals are available for $4

7:00-9:00pm – A benefit concert at the St. James Church, 8 Church Street. The Hilltones are a local band that play a wide variety of fun, danceable songs, from rockabilly and blues to swampy roots and rock n roll. The ability to blend all of these different styles makes each show upbeat and full of surprises.~Proceeds will benefit Winter Carnival. Suggested donation $20/family, $5/individual. Pay at the door.


Sunday, February 7th Events
8:00am-10:00am— Breakfast with Frosty at Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill. $6.00 per person. Bring your family and friends to help support Greenfield Winter Carnival! Tickets available in advance. Purchase at the Recreation Department, Town Hall or from a Recreation Commissioner.  

11:00am- Cookie Bake Off – Enter to win our Cookie Contest. Click here for Cookie Bake Off Rules. Click here for Cooke Bake of Form. Drop off your favorite cookies to Beacon Field at 11:00am. Bring a minimum of 2 dozen cookies per entrant. All cookie types welcome. Please share recipes or ingredients. Categories: Most Original, Best Overall and Best Decorated!

11:00am-3:00pm – Ski and Snowshoe Demo’s - Eastern Mountain Sports of Hadley will provide FREE snowshoe and X-country ski for demonstrations. Ask questions; learn tips and tricks of these winter sports!

11:00am – Working AKC Siberian Huskies Demonstration presented by Yankee Siberian Husky Club, the Kenney Family. Learn about the breed, the sled, how to hook them up and observe the demonstration.

12:30pm -- Community Wide Tug of War – Gather ‘round for a good old fashion pulling contest! Beacon Field.

12:30pm-4:00pm – Horse Drawn Hay Rides by Muddy Brook Farm at Beacon Field. $2 Adults, $1 for Kids 2-16 and kids under 2 are free.

1:00pm – Snow Volleyball -- Come join the fun for a game of snow volleyball. Which surface is softer sand or snow? Beacon Field

1:00pm – Check In Cardboard Sled Entries – Beacon Field

1:30pm-3:20pm – Public Ice Skating -- Collins/Moylan Arena, by the High School. Admission is $5 and Skate Rentals are available for $4

2:00pm -- Cardboard Sled Contest at Beacon Field. Just about anything goes…as long as you construct your sled with only cardboard, tape and paint. CHECK IN at 1:00pm. Race follows immediately after check in. Sled Categories: Adults -16 and over (single riders) prizes for Most Creative and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Timed; Group - 2 or more all ages prizes for Most Creative and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Timed; Corporate Challenge prize for Best Design; and Youth - 16 and under (single rider) prizes for Most Creative, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Timed and “The Little Sled that Could”! Design your best all-cardboard sled for a ride down the hill.

RULES:
  • Parents may help children build their sleds.
  • 1 Entry per family.
  • Sled MUST be made of cardboard.
  • Sleds may not have plastic wrap, wood or other bottom surface material, or runners (unless cardboard).
  • NOTE: If no snow, bring your sled to the field. They will be judged on creativity and construction.
Ongoing - Snowman Village – help build our first annual snowman community at Beacon Field. Bring your own decorations and design your own snowman. Construct your own member of the Winter Carnival’s Snowman Village. Take Pictures, Make Memories!

Ongoing - Snow Sculpture Contest at Beacon Field. First come, first claimed for pre-built snow mound (weather permitting) or make your own. Add your own fun accessories. (Food coloring only for colors please – do not use paint). Start as early as you would like. Judging begins at 3:15pm.

5:30pm-  Snowshoeing Trek led by Bicycle World Staff. Meet at the Highland Pond parking lot at 5:30 pm for a 60-90 minute free guided walk around Rocky Mountain trails. Bring your own snowshoes! Enjoy the full moon reflecting off the snow!

Hot food, drinks, snacks, and souvenirs on sale Sunday, February 7th at Beacon Field. Travel Mugs, Long and Short Sleeve Winter Carnival Shirts available. Adult and Youth Sizes.


Skating, Sledding, and Warming Fire
Skating and Sledding at Beacon Field. Enjoy sliding hill and ice rink all weekend long during the Winter Carnival. Bring your own sleds and skates. Warming fire on Sunday, February 7th (weather permitting)
