Greenfield has a tremendous opportunity to receive substantial funds from the Massachusetts School Building Authority to build a new high school. The Town has been fortunate enough to have been able to participate in MSBA projects for its elementary schools and the Middle School. The High School is the only school building not to have been renovated.
In 2010, the Town voted to fund a feasibility study and schematic design for a repair project to upgrade the existing high school building to meet all building codes.
On December 15th, 2010, the Greenfield School Building Committee selected Construction Monitoring Services as the Owner’s Project Manager. Jim Byrne of CMS has been shepherding us through the early phases and helping us move forward with MSBA.
On April 5th, 2011, the Town signed a contract with Dore & Whittier of Burlington, Vt. and Newburyport, MA. as the architect for the project. Lee Dore is leading the project for the firm with assistance from Thomas Hengelsberg. They have been working closely with the administration and the Building Committee to map out the future educational needs of the high school programs and to incorporate these initiatives in the building design.
