The Greenfield Youth Commission was created on April 17, 1996, when the Town Council voted to adopt Chapter 40 Section 8E of the Massachusetts General Laws. The Massachusetts General Law charges the Youth Commission with the responsibility of "carrying out programs which may be designed or established to meet the opportunities, challenges and problems of youth of said city or town and in conjunction with any similar or related programs of any agency of the commonwealth or any agency of the federal government."
Greenfield's Youth Commission is an eleven member board of Greenfield citizens, consisting of nine full members and two alternate members. The Youth Commission has also been given the responsibility of maintaining and staffing the Greenfield Community Youth Center as a venue for youth
programming.
